Tutor Doctor State College Offers Individual Instruction in home and online or in Our New Office on S. Pugh St

STATE COLLEGE, PA – Occasionally, parents feel overwhelmed when their sons or daughters ask for help on homework or with a difficult subject. This becomes even more of a problem if the student is in the middle or upper grades where the assignments, such as in science or math, are a little more involved.

Although many teachers offer extra help after class or a school may have a free tutoring program, there are times when a parent wants to provide one-to-one help with a professional tutor. That’s where Kevin Price, the owner of Tutor Doctor of State College, can be of assistance.

Tutor Doctor State College is now organized as a non-profit. “We decided to organize as a non-profit to show our commitment to helping students is our number one priority,” Price said.

Besides helping out academically, Price’s staff members try to tailor their assistance to the child’s learning style. They also work with the student to improve time management and organizational skills.

Price is originally from Altoona, Pennsylvania and obtained his bachelor’s degree from Penn State. After graduating from Penn State, he spent 15 years in Atlanta working the corporate world. Price went on to attain a Master’s degree from Georgia State, understanding how important education is. After seeing children close to him struggle with certain subjects in school, he wanted to do something about it so he moved back to Pennsylvania and opened Tutor Doctor State College last year. He passionately assists both students and parents, walking with them through each step of our tutoring process. Price said he was drawn to Tutor Doctor because of its values and business model.

“It made sense because it is individualized,” Price said. “There are so many identifiable differences in learning styles, and this company speaks to everyone’s difference and has a core belief that anyone can learn with the right approach.”

He said creating an individualized educational plan for each client makes a lot of sense. Explaining his role in the process, Price said he makes the “magical match” by pairing up the right tutor with each student.

With 25 individuals in his growing tutor pool, he has quite a few choices.

“I look at qualifications such as experience, temperament and teaching style when I make a match,” Price said.

Tutor Doctor’s clients range from preschool to college and even include some adult students, but Price says his firm’s niche is working with middle school, high school and college students at Penn State.

On August 21st this year, Price will open an office at 137 S. Pugh St, Ste. 4, which will allow his tutors to meet with students either at their homes or the spacious office. Although times vary, usually the tutor will meet with the student for three hours a week.

“We’ll sit down to set goals and expectations and then figure out what the best time frame is for meeting them, and we work with the local schools to make sure the learning is following their school’s curriculum, ” Price said.

In addition to providing school-age students with tutoring in various subjects, many families also hire Tutor Doctor State College to help students get ahead and prepare for more advanced challenges, such as honors classes that could help them get into a preferred college or university. With the recent launch of its ACT/SAT® Success Program, students now have access to the best one-to-one, in-home and online test preparation. Tutor Doctor State College has also proven valuable for the rapidly growing home-schooled population, as well as for students with special needs.
