I learned a lot from my tutor, and I improved my score by 70 points to get a 1380. I focused mostly on English and Reading, and I loved how my tutor created a weekly schedule for me to study. He was also very flexible, which worked really well with my schedule.

Test Prep Frequently Asked Questions
Possibly. There is no limit to how many times students can take the ACT test, but on average it takes students 2-3 times to achieve their testing goals. We recommend approaching the spring test with no expectations other than to gain experience for an official testing day.
Yes! Many parents and students are surprised by the lack of correlation between grades and test scores. Grades are based on short term measurements of a student’s subject understanding, often with opportunity to retake tests or higher grades. AP exams, ACT, SAT and PSAT are a measurement of cumulative knowledge often dating back to middle school.
We always begin test preparation with a cognitive assessment which includes a predictive SAT and ACT score, along with a test prep strategy based on how your child tests.
We have found that the number one indicator of progress is completing custom-selected practice work outside of tutoring sessions. The other factor to consider is the student’s baseline score vs. target score; the higher the starting score, the more focused preparation it takes to increase either score.
As a top test prep expert, we would provide a very general rule of thumb that to increase 100 points on the SAT would equate to 10-20 hours of tutoring plus 20-40 hours of independent practice. To raise an ACT score by 5 points would equate to about 20-30 hours of tutoring plus 40-60 hours of independent practice. We have seen students make significant improvement after just a few sessions with support of our test prep experts, so these estimates vary by student.
