Hello! My name is Cheryl Smith. My husband and I have lived in the Katy area for 22 years. Our 12-year old twins attend Katy ISD, and I was fortunate enough to work in Katy Independent School District, as well. I have a love of reading, and after volunteering at Memorial Parkway Elementary School's library for several years, I moved on to working with a wonderful librarian at Cardiff Junior High. From there, I returned to corporate life working with school districts across the US, helping educators and administrators find affordable and effective educational technology solutions. When the opportunity to own Tutor Doctor of Katy, a resource for parents and students in the community for over 13 years, became available, I knew it was a great fit.
As a Mom of twins who were entering Pre-AP classes in junior high, I was especially concerned with the loss of in-person academic instruction due to the pandemic. I wanted to give my children personalized tutoring with Math, Reading, and Science. I knew how crucial the ideal tutor match is for student success, and the twins began the year with one-to-one in-home and online tutors. The tutors took the time to understand the way each of my children learn, starting with a Math and Reading assessment, incorporating study skills into the sessions, engaging them with the content, and ultimately boosting their test scores while improving confidence.
Every week I meet families that need help with Science, Precalculus homework, AP coursework, SAT and ACT prep, or just assistance with organizational skills so their students can be ready for our fast-paced world. I listen intently to their stories and help them chart a path forward past the current academic challenges, to their goals. Tutor Doctor of Katy is here to help navigate the expectations of Katy ISD, Lamar Consolidated ISD, Fort Bend ISD, and Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District. We are committed to the success of our students and being a part of their academic victories is our goal.
