Meet the Owner

Welcome to Tutor Doctor Central Brevard! I’m Monique Harris. My husband and I are the proud owners of this local tutoring agency. Allow me to share a bit about myself and how my journey with education began.

A Mother’s Inspiration: As a mother of two high school daughters, I’ve experienced firsthand the joys and challenges of navigating the educational journey with children. My daughters have been my greatest inspiration, igniting within me a deep desire to make a positive difference in the lives of other children.

I know from experience that with children, everything can seem to be going well – until suddenly it isn’t. In our case, the culprit was math. I had no idea my daughter had fallen behind, but I rolled up my sleeves and stepped in to help. …If only it were that easy! Instead, this is what happened:

1. First, the math had changed since I took it in school – and though the internet helped, I had to get up to speed quickly.
2. Second, it was difficult to prioritize working on her math together. Other things kept getting in the way.
3. Finally, to my surprise, my daughter did not like my help! She seemed to view what I thought of as “help” as “interference”. She got very frustrated with me – and, sadly, I got frustrated with her.

Sound familiar? We made it through that year, but I realized then how difficult it was to help my own child academically, and I wondered how many other parents were facing similar difficulties. So, when we had the opportunity to found a Tutor Doctor here in Central Brevard, we took it. I left my work career behind me, and now I am “the Tutor Doctor”. (And when my daughter struggled with math again in 12th grade, we got a tutor for her – what a difference!)
