Tutoring Tip #3
Struggling with how to study? Can’t quite figure out how to remember the material, and actually learn the concepts? Start by generating a question for yourself about the material.
Yes, you can do the traditional highlight the material, make a notation beside a certain passage, or go over your notes once again, but has that really helped you learn the material? If that doesn’t work for you, or even if it does there might be a better way.
Try asking more probing questions about the material. Once you start articulating deeper question(s) about what you are learning about you go from passive learner to an engaged learner which will elicit a stronger ability to retain the information. In addition, by working to find the answer you develop a much deeper understanding.
This technique can be applied to any subject whether in school or just for your own self development. Start asking more questions to deepen and broaden your learning.
