We are fully aligned with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the state curriculum (TEKS).

Tutor Doctor Austin Pflugerville has been a partner with Austin ISD for over 3 years, and just recently completed a partnership agreement with the East Austin College Prep to provide assessment and support to their students.

STAAR gauges the student readiness to move to the next grade level. For each grade level, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) has defined the Essential knowledge and skills (TEKS) that each student in any given grade must know.

For example, TEKS defines curriculum Chapter 110: English Language Arts and Reading for each grade level. An example of Grade 4 curriculum can be found at the following link http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/rules/tac/chapter110/ch110a.html#110.6

How does Tutor Doctor help?

Our assessment in English Language Arts (Reading/Writing) and in math provide detailed view on the student level and maps out the details of the student academic knowledge and where they need the most support to get them ready for STAAR, current and next school year.

Our English Language Arts assessments are a comprehensive, valid and reliable program which assesses your child’s reading skills in seven fundamental areas:

  • High-frequency words
  • Word recognition
  • Phonics
  • Phonemic Awareness
  • Oral vocabulary
  • Spelling
  • Reading comprehension

This is an intelligent assessment system which adapts the difficulty of the items according to each student’s performance on the assessment to help target his/her accurate reading abilities and to help him/her feel successful throughout the assessment process. Once your child completes an assessment, a comprehensive quantitative and qualitative narrative report of your child’s reading profile is instantly generated. Each report offers valuable information about how to help improve your child’s reading skills. This information will help us provide better individualized reading instruction for your child and to monitor the progress he/she makes in reading throughout the year.

The results will also show the level of each of the TEKS items for the grade: grade level, approaching/advanced or behind. The academic map provided by the assessments will show the exact issue that student has and creates a student specific profile.

Below example shows an excerpt from one of our fourth-grade student’s assessments; Figure 1 shows the academic map detailing the level for the student on each of the above seven fundamental areas and Figure 2 show the STAAR results and TEKs alignment for the same student.

Looking at the TEKS defined curriculum for forth grade ELA we find that the student in the above example is behind on item9, 6 and 3…

Our math assessment is a comprehensive, diagnostic assessment of mathematics that covers K-7 mathematics. It provides a complete picture of each student’s strengths and weaknesses, including instructional points across the 44 sub-tests of K-7 mathematics. All five NCTM instructional focus areas are tested, including:

  • Numbers and Operations
  • Measurement
  • Algebra
  • Geometry
  • Data Analysis

ADAM K-7 is an intelligent assessment system which adapts the difficulty of the items to student performances on the assessment in order to target each student’s accurate math abilities and help him or her feel successful throughout the assessment process. Once your child completes an assessment, a comprehensive quantitative report of his or her math profile is instantly generated. This information will help us provide better individualized math instruction for your child and monitor the progress he or she makes in math throughout the year.

The Texas Education Agency, also defines the Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for math for each of the grade levels.

An example shown below, the academic map in Figure 3 shows the result of one of our students in fourth-grade across the NTCM instructional areas. Figure 4 shows the STAAR/TEKS alignment
