Summer Reading Challenge
Did you know research has shown that over the summer, most students lose 20%-30% of the academic gains they made over the previous school year? This learning loss has only increased over the last few years.
Summer is a great opportunity to help our students stay on track or even get ahead. We are supporting our students by offering a Summer Reading Challenge with the opportunity to win prizes!
CHALLENGE DETAILS
1. Please fill-out the Google form here.
The Summer Reading Challenge will end on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. There will be one prize draw winner in each of the community areas that we support: Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch, Bradenton, & Parrish (4 total).
2. Students, Here’s How the Challenge Works:
Each age group should read:
- Ages 3-8 = 5 books
- Ages 9-14 = 4 books
- Ages 15-18= 3 books
You may choose your own books, pick something new on the Reading List https://bit.ly/TDReadingList2022, or explore Caldecott and Newbery Medal books through the blue links below.
The Caldecott and Newbery Medals are considered the most prestigious in American children’s book awards.
Caldecott Medal: Annually recognizes the preceding year’s “most distinguished American picture book for children”. It is awarded to the illustrator by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association.
Newbery Medal: Annually honors the author of “the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children” and is also awarded by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association.
2.2 Once you have read the number of books for your age group, please fill out the Google form, https://bit.ly/TDReadingForm, by answering 4 questions for each book that you have read. Please email the completed form to ckraft@tutordoctor.com. The form must be submitted by 7/20/2022.
2.3 Your submitted form enters you into a prize draw with a chance to win an end of summer $50 ice cream party or a $50 gift card to Barnes & Noble or Amazon.
The books you select may be found at your local library, your local bookshop, or found online (i.e. Amazon, eBay, etc.).
