James

Greetings! My name is James. I attended The University of Texas at Austin where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. After graduating, I began my career in Georgetown, Texas teaching Physical Education and Health. While there, I also coached football, basketball, and track. Three years later, I moved to Frisco ISD and transitioned to teaching middle school math. I love the challenge of teaching math because it is often a subject where students shy away from and may possibly come to accept that it is an area where they never excel. The reward for me comes when I am able to change students' perceptions of math through establishing positive relationships and building strong rapports with them. From there, I work closely with students to fill in any learning gaps and strive to strengthen students' overall number sense and skills. Entering my 8th year as an educator, I truly believe that my best years of teaching are still ahead of me as I consistently discover new methods to help learners of all levels fulfill their potential.

Megan

My name is Megan Howell, and I am a second grade teacher at Harmony Charter Schools in Carrollton. I have been a teacher for 4 years, and I graduated form Texas State University with a degree in education in 2013. I am certified to teach early childhood-6th grade and I am ESL certified.

My favorite subject in school was writing and ELA, and I have to say that it is my favorite subject to teach now.

I struggled in math tremendously throughout school and into college, so I know what it's like to feel incompetent and less than everyone else because something is difficult for you. I am very sensitive to students who are struggling, and I have a heart for those who feel like giving up. However, I am a firm believer in overcoming hardships and obstacles, and encouraging my students to not give up even if it requires more effort and brain power.

During my free time, I attend and serve as a greeter and at our guest services table at my church in Carrollton. I enjoy going to new restaurants and places around DFW. Additionally, I love music, and my favorite thing to do is to go to concerts and hear live music. I have two fury babies named Durant (a Rottweiler mix) and Juno (a very small but loud cat) who have brought so much joy and laughter in my life.

I have a passion for learning and a passion for teaching. My students are literally my first thought in the morning, and the last things I think about before I go to sleep. This is my calling, and I learn every day how to get better at it.

Ameen

Hi! My name is Ameen, a recent graduate of UT Dallas. I graduated in May 2017 and am pursuing a career in medicine, hoping to start medical school in Fall 2018. Currently, I live in Frisco, and over the last four years have witnessed the competitive educational atmosphere in our school districts.

Like many college students, I was striving to develop into a well-rounded individual, juggling between my social and academic life, while at the same time exploring career choices. At times, classes became a chore and not having the proper perspective made academics even more difficult. I must say that my experiences taught me a lot, and aside from maintaining academic success on paper; I now have greater clarity, perspective, and excitement in pursuing my future goals.

My goal as a tutor is to not only help younger and older peers academically, but also give them the confidence to be successful moving forward. I believe the biggest key to my development in college was developing a certain mindset, one that was not handed to me by a professor or advisor, but rather something that I found through my experiences. I hope to convey what I learned to those that may be struggling so that they can experience success, fulfillment, and excitement in their own journeys.

Of course, there is still a lot for me to learn; and I look forward to learning from students, parents, and teachers while putting my best foot forth as a tutor. This is a team effort, and I look forward to working with each other to accomplish our common goal!

Diana

Hi, my name is Diana and I look forward to meeting and working with you! I was born in New Hampshire, moved around to several different states including New York and Pennsylvania, and ended up in Texas 7 years ago! I went to school at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and studied secondary education and mathematics. I taught high school math for 8 years in the classroom, but now I love teaching math in a tutoring setting.

One of my favorite things about teaching has always been working one-on-one with students. I truly care, and want them to understand. I love to see the look on their face when they are successful at something they didn't think they would be!

I hope we can work together with you and your child to build their confidence and skills in mathematics. I look forward to hearing from you!
