What is the ACT?

Professor Everett Lindquist developed the American College Testing Program (ACT) at the University of Iowa in response to the SAT® exams. He believed that the latter exam didn’t accurately measure a student’s knowledge or ability to learn. He created the ACTs as an alternative. The exam is divided into four sections: English, Reading, Science, and Math. The marks from each section are averaged to create a composite score, which range from 1-36. The average score is 21.

What is the SAT®?

Formerly known as the Scholastic Aptitude Test, the SAT® is one of the oldest methods of testing whether a student is prepared for college. It is accepted in all colleges in the nation and plays a large role in the school’s decision on who to accept. The exam is broken down into four tests: Writing and language, evidence-based reading, Math (calculator), and math (no-calculator). Students can potentially score up to 1600 points on the test, with the average falling around 1000.

While there is no right or wrong test to take, one exam might suit a student better than the other.
