Frequently Asked Questions about our ACT & SAT Test Prep Tutoring:
What’s the difference between the ACT and the SAT?
The main difference between the two tests includes a science section that appears in the ACT but not the SAT. This section of the ACT is designed to test a student’s critical thinking and analytical skill more than specific scientific knowledge. The ACT also has a math section that covers probability and statistics, which the SAT does not. The ACT also doesn’t allow any calculator use during the tests, while the SAT has one math section that allows the use of a calculator. The scoring of both tests is also different. The SAT is scored on a scale of 400-600, while the ACT is scored on a scale of 1-36.
What is a good score on the ACT?
A good score on the ACT depends on a student’s goals. For most students, scoring a 21 or higher is considered “good.” However, if a student plans to get into an elite college, a score of 30 to 33 are excellent scores.
What is a good score on the SAT?
Again, a good score on the SAT depends on a student’s goals. The average score is around 1070, so anything higher than that is considered “above average.” However, elite schools have stricter standards for SAT scores. The best one could score is 1600, but to determine what a good score is on the SAT, look at the average scores earned by students going to the school of your choice. For example, the average SAT score for students attending Harvard is 1520, so achieving that score or better would give a student a fighting chance at applications to that school.
